MDJ-900, MDJ-1000 – general troubleshooting guide

Whether you’re spinning in USB, MIDI, or HID mode, the MDJ-900 and MDJ-1000 are designed for seamless DJ performance. If something isn’t working as expected, follow these troubleshooting steps.

USB Storage Device Not Working or Error Messages Displayed

  • Make sure the USB drive is fully inserted into the port.

  • Do not use USB hubs—these models will not operate properly when a hub is connected.

  • If you see “ERR E-1006 Too many devices,” disconnect any hub and connect the USB drive directly.

  • If “ERR E-1003 Media error” appears, the storage device is formatted incorrectly. Re-format it using a supported file system (FAT, FAT32, HFS+, or NTFS).

  • Always back up data before connecting any USB device.

  • For “ERR E-1001 Bad Update,” “ERR E-1004 Unsupported file format,” or “ERR E-1007 Incorrect processing,” contact Gemini Support.

Computer Does Not Recognize the Device (MIDI / HID / Audio Connection Issues)

  • Power the unit off, then reboot your computer.

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of your DJ software.

  • If the MDJ-900 or MDJ-1000 mapping does not appear in your software list, visit Gemini Support for the latest drivers or firmware updates.

  • For HID mode, ensure your DJ software supports HID devices and disable MIDI devices in software preferences if prompted.

Firmware or Software Out-of-Date (General Performance Issues)

  • Confirm that your MDJ-900 or MDJ-1000 is running the latest firmware.

  • Visit support.geminisound.com for the most current firmware files and installation steps.

  • Do not use the old Gemini Updater utility, as it is no longer supported.

Unsupported File Format or Media Compatibility Error

  • If “Unsupported file format” appears on the display, the file type cannot be read by the unit.

  • Verify that the track is encoded in a supported format (WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC).

  • Replace or re-encode unsupported files before attempting playback again.
