MDJ-900, MDJ-1000 – Connecting to DJ Software via MIDI or HID Troubleshooting

Gemini MDJ-900 and MDJ-1000 can function as MIDI/HID controllers for DJ software, allowing advanced control and audio routing. This guide explains how to connect and configure these units for seamless integration.

Connecting via MIDI

  • Plug a USB cable from the unit’s USB OUT port to your computer.
  • Press the MIDI source button on the MDJ unit to enable MIDI mode.
  • Wait for your computer to detect the device:
    • Windows: Uses standard WDM drivers automatically. For low-latency performance, download ASIO drivers from https://geminisound.com.
    • Mac: Uses Core Audio drivers automatically.
  • Open your DJ software and select:
    • MDJ-900 or MDJ-1000 as MIDI device
    • MDJ-900 or MDJ-1000 as audio output device
  • If needed, adjust MIDI Channel in Settings:
    • Navigate to Settings > MIDI Channel
    • Choose a channel (0–15) to avoid conflicts with other devices.

Connecting via HID

  • HID mode offers higher resolution and faster communication than MIDI.
  • To enable HID:
    • Disable MIDI devices in your DJ software.
    • Search for HID devices; select MDJ-900 or MDJ-1000.
  • HID is supported by software such as VirtualDJ, enabling screen feedback and advanced control.

Audio Configuration

  • Both units allow selecting audio bit depth and sample rate:
    • Options: 24-bit/192kHz, 24-bit/96kHz, 24-bit/48kHz, 16-bit/44.1kHz
  • To change:
    • Press Settings while in MIDI mode.
    • Scroll to Sound Card, select desired option, and confirm.
