TT-1100USB: How do I balance the tonearm on my turntable?

Balancing the tonearm sets the right tracking force so your stylus rides in the groove correctly. Do this any time you install or change a cartridge on your Gemini Sound TT-1100USB. Work through the steps in order.

Balance the tonearm

  1. Install the cartridge and headshell onto the tonearm, and remove the stylus guard if one is fitted.
  2. With the numbered dial facing the front of the turntable, screw the counterweight onto the back of the tonearm until both ends balance on the pivot point, like a see-saw. The tonearm should float directly above the platter without touching it.
  3. Set the numbered dial to zero at the 12 o'clock position. Turn only the dial, not the entire counterweight.
  4. Turn the counterweight (counterclockwise as you face the front of the turntable) until the dial reaches the tracking force specified by your cartridge manufacturer.

Choosing a tracking force

Depending on the cartridge you choose, the manufacturer may list a range of suitable weights. Start with the lowest suggested weight and work up from there if you run into tracking problems. If you are using a Gemini cartridge, the recommended tracking force is between 2.5 and 3.0 grams.

How to connect the TT-1100USB to a computer

The TT-1100USB has a class-compliant USB audio interface, so it works with any recording software with no driver install. Connect it and start recording.
