Phantom power (+48V) on GEM series mixers

Every mixer in the Gemini Sound GEM series (GEM-05USB, GEM-08USB, and GEM-12USB) has phantom power, also labeled +48V. Phantom power sends direct current to microphones that need it to drive active circuitry, such as condenser mics. When you switch the +48V phantom button on, the mixer sends 48V to your microphones through the XLR input jacks and XLR cable.

Check your mic before you switch it on

With phantom power on, the mixer sends 48V to any microphone connected over XLR. That is fine for most dynamic microphones, but the current will damage some specialty mics, such as vintage ribbon mics. Always confirm your microphone can accept phantom power before you turn it on. If you are not sure, check with the microphone's manufacturer first.

Avoid the loud pop

Keep the channel volume down when you connect or disconnect XLR cables while phantom power is on. Otherwise you will hear a loud pop.

GC-206BTB: my microphone isn't working

The GC-206BTB has a noise gate on the mic input, so quiet sounds won't amplify. Speak louder, check your connections, and swap the cable to get the mic working.
