GEM Series Mixers - Using External Audio FX

All mixers in the GEM series include a built-in delay effect and a send/return FX loop, which allows users to connect external effects processors. The FX Send jack routes audio out to an external unit, and the Return brings the processed signal back into the mix. For best results, the external FX unit should have ¼" line-level inputs and outputs.

Some users may choose to use a guitar-style multi-effects pedal, which can be a cost-effective option around the $100 range. However, these pedals are typically designed for instrument-level signals, not line-level. To avoid distortion or clipping, users should keep the FX Send level low and set the pedal to 100% wet mix if using it in parallel with the dry signal.

A better long-term solution is to use a rackmount or desktop multi-effects processor designed for line-level signals. These are harder to find new under $100, but there are many excellent vintage used options from brands that were popular in professional studios and still offer great sound quality today.
