CDJ-700 Virtual DJ setup guide

Pairing a Gemini Sound CDJ-700 with Virtual DJ on Windows is straightforward once you know to install the drivers before you plug anything in. Here's the order that actually works.

Before you start

Download the drivers from the CDJ-700 product page:

You'll also need a USB cable and an installed copy of Virtual DJ.

1. Connect the hardware and launch Virtual DJ

  1. Launch Virtual DJ.
  2. Connect the included power cable to the CDJ-700.
  3. Connect a USB cable from the CDJ-700 to an available USB port on your computer.
  4. Power on the CDJ-700. By default it boots into CD mode.

2. Switch to MIDI mode

  1. With Virtual DJ open, press the MIDI button on the CDJ-700.
  2. The unit begins connecting to your computer.
  3. If this is the first time you've connected the unit to this PC, Windows installs the necessary drivers. Wait for installation to finish. Do not power off or disconnect during this process.
  4. Once Virtual DJ recognizes the controller, you'll see a confirmation notification.

3. Configure sound output

For a single CDJ-700, open Virtual DJ's audio settings and assign the CDJ-700 to Gemini ASIO. Within the Gemini ASIO Settings dialog, the deck's channels must match Virtual DJ's channel assignment.

4. Running multiple CDJ-700 units

You can run up to 4 decks. For additional units:

  • All decks must be routed through Gemini ASIO in the sound-card setting.
  • Each deck is assigned to its own pair of channels: Deck 1 = channels 1 and 2, Deck 2 = channels 3 and 4, and so on.
  • The channel assignments in Virtual DJ must match the channel assignments in the Gemini ASIO Settings dialog. Open it by clicking the ASIO button next to any device under sound card.

Important: when you have more than one CDJ-700, MIDI-connect them one at a time. Pressing MIDI on multiple units at once will confuse Virtual DJ.

You're ready to mix

CDM-4000BT: Can I connect turntables to the CDM-4000BT?

The CDM-4000BT needs line-level sources. A turntable with a line-level output connects directly, and a phono-only turntable works too once you add an external phono preamp.
