Gemini Sound turntables: how to pick the right one
If you want to drop a needle on vinyl and actually hear it the way it was meant to sound, a turntable is where you start. Gemini Sound has been building audio gear since 1974, and we make turntables for two pretty different jobs: listening to records at home, and DJing with them. This guide walks you through what's in stock right now, what the specs actually mean, and how to pick the one that fits how you'll use it.
Listening to records at home: the TT-900
If you just want to play records without piecing together a turntable, an amp, and a pair of speakers, the TT-900 is the whole setup in one box. You get the turntable, the stylus and cartridge, and a matching pair of stereo speakers. Mount the cartridge, run the cables, and you're spinning vinyl in your living room the same afternoon it arrives.
It plays every record you're likely to own. The 3-speed belt drive switches between 33, 45, and 78 RPM, so a stack of old 78s and a brand-new LP both play correctly. When the needle isn't down, Bluetooth 5.0 lets you stream from your phone, tablet, or TV straight through the same speakers, so one system covers vinyl night and everything else. If you want to grow into a bigger hi-fi later, the RCA output lets you feed an external amp down the road.
- 3-speed belt drive: 33, 45, and 78 RPM
- Pair of 2x 50W stereo speakers included
- Bluetooth 5.0 for streaming from a phone, tablet, or TV
- ±10% pitch adjustment
- Stylus and cartridge included; RCA output to expand later
- High-gloss finish in black/black, black/red, or black/white
- $149.95
If you're buying your first turntable, or buying one as a gift, this is the easy answer. There's nothing else to source and nothing to match.
DJ turntables and decks
DJing is a different job. A direct-drive DJ deck has a motor strong enough to get the platter up to speed fast and hold it steady while you scratch, back-cue, and beatmatch. Our direct-drive decks (the TT-4000 and TT-5000) are built for that, but they're out of stock at the moment, so we're not going to point you at a page you can't buy from.
If you're putting a DJ setup together today, the in-stock gear lives in the DJ equipment collection — media players, consoles, and mixers that are ready to ship. You can also check the full DJ turntables collection to see which decks are back, and the record players and turntables collection for the home side.
A mixer to go with your decks
Two turntables need something to sit between them, and that's the mixer. The MXR-01BT is a 2-channel DJ mixer built for exactly that: blend two sources, ride the crossfader between them, and you're mixing. It's in stock now, and the Bluetooth input means you can patch in a phone for a quick request without re-cabling anything.
- 2-channel layout for blending two decks or sources
- Bluetooth input to add a phone or tablet
- All-metal chassis
- $129.95
Which one should you get?
- You want to play records at home, with nothing else to buy: get the TT-900. Turntable, speakers, and Bluetooth in one box.
- You're building a DJ rig and need to mix two sources: start with the MXR-01BT mixer, and watch the DJ equipment collection for in-stock decks and players.
- You want a direct-drive scratch deck specifically: the TT-4000 and TT-5000 are our DJ decks, but they're out of stock right now — check the DJ turntables collection to see when they're back.
Whatever you land on, you're buying from a family-run audio company that's been making this stuff since 1974. If you're not sure which way to go, start with how you'll actually use it, and the right turntable usually picks itself.
